Sprint PCS is another unfortunate example of a telecommunications company with very questionable ethics. I am glad to see that they are losing their customer base and may have to change their business processes to remain in business.
I noted Sprint's coverage was not as good as Verizon's and ATT. I decided to migrate my phones (four of them) to Verizon. I waited until one of my phones went "off of contract" and called their 800 number to cancel it. I wanted to do the transaction in the store where I signed up for the service but I was told I needed to call their call center. It took me 45 minutes of harassment from their call center agents to get the phone cancelled. I was transferred to multiple agents to process the transaction and each agent asked me for the same information as the previous agent. This procedure seemed nearly as bad as the AOL cancellation procedure that many complained about--this is nuts.
I planned very carefully to leave Sprint. When it came time to cancel the "second to last" phone, I was told by their call center agent that this would not extend my contract on the last remaining phone. The next month I checked and the contract on my last phone had been renewed for a year because I was "no longer on a family plan" as I had only one phone. I would have waited until they both expired had I known that they would be so unethical. I waited a year and now I am not a Sprint customer nor do I ever expect to be.
